What is a Raster image?
A Raster file is a bitmap, the most common form of computer image.
Common Raster files end in: .jpg, .bmp, .tif, and .gif.
When bitmap files are viewed up close or are enlarged, images become pixelated (blurred
with jagged edges).

What is a Vector image?
Unlike Raster images, Vectored images consist of
layers and paths that can be enlarged without risk
of blurring and pixelating.
For this reason, Vectored images are the preferred
choice for banners, digital printing, dimensional
letters and other
services that SoCal Sign Design provides. Typical
vector files extensions include: .eps, .ai and .cdr.
Graphics Programs such as Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw
produce vector images. PhotoShop, PhotoShop
Elements, MS Paint, MS Word, PowerPoint and
similar software do not produce vector images.
What File types do you accept?

What should I do to my art file before sending?
For the best art reproduction, follow these
guidelines:
All colors should be converted to CMYK (no RGB
values, please)
Convert all text to "curves" or "outlines"
to prevent font substitution
(as an
alternative you my wish to send the font file along
with the art file)
If sending a .tif, .jpg, or other RASTER file save image at:
- 100%
scale at 100dpi, or
- 50% scale at 200dpi, or
- 25%
scale at 400dpi
The art file is too large for
email, how do I send it?
